What Is a Car Lease?
Think of leasing like a long-term rental. Instead of buying the vehicle outright or financing its full value, you're essentially paying for the portion of the car you use over a set period — typically 24 to 36 months. At the end of the lease term, you simply return the vehicle, or in many cases, choose to buy it if you've fallen in love with it (which happens more often than you'd think with the Nissan Rogue).
How Are Lease Payments Calculated?
This is where many customers get curious. Your monthly lease payment is based on three main factors. These include the vehicle's selling price, its residual value, and the money factor (the leasing equivalent of an interest rate). The residual value is the projected worth of the car at the end of your lease term. The higher the residual, the lower your payments, as you're financing less depreciation. Nissans tend to hold their value well, which works in your favor. The money factor is essentially your financing cost, expressed as a small decimal. Multiply it by 2,400 to get the approximate APR equivalent. A lower money factor means lower payments.
What to Expect at the Dealership
When you stop by our Finance Department to inquire about leasing, we'll walk you through choosing your trim level, selecting your lease term, and deciding on your annual mileage allowance. Standard leases typically allow between 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year. If you drive more, you can purchase additional miles upfront, which is almost always cheaper than paying overage fees at the end. You'll also discuss your down payment, sometimes called a capitalized cost reduction. While it's tempting to put nothing down, we often recommend a modest upfront payment to meaningfully reduce your monthly costs.

“ This place is ridiculous. I bought Rogue from this place and sold it back to them. I sold it to sales person Armaan and now I am not getting any support from him or anyone else in finance. When I sold it, they really messed up transaction and its been 2 weeks and still account is not cleared, loan is not paid off and I am still paying bi weekly payment after 2 weeks. Now I will have to pay additional interest because they delayed transaction. They never have an answer when I call them and they never call back. Now I am travelling internationally and cant even follow up on this everyday like I did for 2 weeks. This place is worst and really stressful to deal with. ”
“ Our experience with this dealership initially was ok, even with a large delay on pick up of the vehicle due to their system being down and no one telling us, but it was after that that it really fell apart. Nissan is one of the manufacturers that will record your data and report it without your consent and despite unsubscribing and rejecting the service emails we still got a new one every month that had our updated mileage directly from the vehicle, we were not reporting that to the dealership but the car was without our consent. We then returned the vehicle when the lease was up as it was worth even less than the residual on the lease and then got an email about a month after that saying that we need to pay for a new windshield even though there were no cracks or even chips. When looking at the reason it says that it was “pitted” which is fair to say what every windshield in Alberta is. We then reached out to the manager we were dealing with to get them to reach out to Nissan and they said they would. I followed up with them a couple of weeks later and they said they no longer worked there. My initial response from the dealership was that this issue is with Nissan Canada so take it up with them. The problem with that is we bought the car from you, not Nissan Canada, so trying to offload that to make us deal with it ourselves is extremely poor customer service. As such I cannot recommend dealing with this dealership until they sort out their treatment of their customers both during and after ownership. ”
